10th April 2026 Local Government Election Press Release
LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTION – OVERSIGHT & GOVERNANCE
Essex County Council Elections are happening for the last time on Thursday 7th May 2026. The County Council will only have a 2-year term if government plans to consolidate councils proceeds.
For many years we have campaigned for a “One Tier Council” approach. The Unitary Authorities model, whilst not perfect, creates the one stop shop to serve residents, and to be held accountable for service outcomes. Central Government has decided now is the time to make this change.
So this final term will be all about preparing for transition, making sure residents voices are heard and services are modelled to ensure improved service delivery. An Independent voice at the table at this time will give residents confidence that their wishes are being noted, that’s why Richard HYLAND leader of Chelmsford Independents has chosen to stand
Richard says..
“At this time of massive change we need to ensure “party politics” does not get in the way of what’s best for Essex residents – divisive scorched earth policies, or the sour grapes policies of outgoing administration are not what’s needed. With my Independently-minded approach to every challenge I will seek to bring consensus solutions to local governance to provide the best possible outcomes, that serve not shatter services on which we all rely”
There is no “none of the above” option.
